There could be a key component Kaizer Chiefs will be looking at in bringing a new coach, which could see interim coach Cavin Johnson involved.

The club recently announced that they have handed teenage sensation Mfundo Vilakazi a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2028.

Amakhosi's focus on youth could determine the type of coach who will be hired, after sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr. confirmed that plans are in motion to bring a different coaching structure altogether ahead of next season.

"I know we are focused on the next game and the next seven games and we have everything to play for. But yes, definitely the plans have long been in motion, we’ll be having a different technical structure next season," Motaung told journalists on the sidelines of Luke Fleurs' memorial at FNB Stadium.

Various coaches have been linked with the hot seat at the Soweto giants, but Motaung Jr. was tight-lipped on which coaches have made the shortlist.

"Well, you know, it’s our shortlist, but who makes that shortlist? From our side we've been preparing for a while now and at the appropriate time we’ll make the right announcements.”

Johnson, who is highly esteemed on the development side of the game, has shown faith in Chiefs youngsters such as Wandile Duba, Mduduzi Shabalala and even Vilakazi.

In addition to the success the Glamour Boys have in the junior ranks currently, a new coach who comes in could be required to have a vision on how to integrate the young players into the set-up and have synergy with Johnson, who is expected to return to his previous role as Head of Youth.
